What are points of gratitude you can make as goals for your life?
I had to build towards the thing in my life I am now most grateful for: Becki and our beautiful family. There is Bridget, Meghan, and Henry. The points of gratitude in our lives should be our goals. Points of gratitude become goals. I have had many relationships in my life, but the relationship I am most grateful for is one I had to fight for. I had to find Becki. I had to improve myself daily so that I was the man, the husband, the father she needed and deserved. The point of this post is not to outline failures and hardships, but to encourage everyone to think forward. It is okay to reflect, certainly. But why not think of things we should be grateful for as things we do not yet have? That inspires. That pushes. That enriches our daily lives. Yes, we should also look back and be grateful for things. We should look around us and be grateful for everything we presently have. But looking at points of gratitude as elements of our world we presently enjoy is limiting. The world benefits when it sees no limits. Everyone’s lives enrich when they have something grand to work towards. Identifying grand goals requires listing them as points of gratitude they would love to one day say they are thankful for. Points of gratitude are the very things we thank the world for, but we are the pioneers of those points of gratitude. We must treat each day as a day to find something to further be grateful for. Having a mindset of gratitude is empowering. If I were to identify something in this post that I am grateful for right now, it would be my ability to work hard. Having the ability to work hard on work worth doing is something to be eternally grateful for. I am eternally grateful for my work as educator and writer. I love that, daily, I can inspire others to lead in small and large ways. Every classroom I have the privilege of leading is one I am grateful for. I also love that I can use my writing to help others grow. That is the very reason I am managing this self-help blog. A starting point for someone wanting to change their lives, to overcome some hardship, is to list those things you want to be grateful for in one, two, three, four, or however many years are in your future. Every point of gratitude is something to add to your checklist of items to tackle in a given day. Start listing someone you would like to be grateful for. Start listing those qualities in yourself you would love to one day be grateful for. Start listing the daily responsibilities that will make up your ideal job. Be grateful for your career path. Be grateful for your position as student and educator. Be grateful for all those things you have yet to achieve. Gratitude can be the future tense. Gratitude can be most effective in the future tense.
