Are mothers the real heroes, the real role models, the real leaders?

I love this woman, this mother. Happy Mother’s Day in advance to Becki, someone who has spent virtually all of her time as a parent parenting alone. When I first met her, she would tell me stories of carrying one kid, Henry, in a child’s seat, one kid hanging on her neck, and one kid under her free arm. She did this for over a decade. That’s the woman I love, a mother whom I am overjoyed with helping carry a child or more for. That is my life with her. I am so incredibly grateful for this woman. In her, I have found the real meaning of love. Love is about caring for someone more than yourself. Period. Love is about buying a new car, a 2023 all-wheel drive Highlander Hybrid that actually steers for you (35+ miles to the gallon), and saying to the person you care about, “I want you to enjoy the new car smell. This is yours to drive.” I am so grateful for meeting this woman. She has filled my life with so much joy, meaning, and passion. I used to hate Saturdays when I was alone because there was no purpose. Now, my weekends are my purpose, thanks to Becki. We get to take in soccer games where she’s a co-coach. We get to play tennis together. We get to play music together (well, Becki teaching me how to play the guitar). I love this woman, and I just want to take a pre-moment to thank mothers everywhere. They have the greatest impact in the world because they impact the world’s leaders, scholars, fathers. Thank you mothers. One day alone of thanks should be a lifetime of gratitude.
